Epson Stylus Photo or Artisan Printing Blank Pages? Try this.

The problem with your Epson Stylus Photo or Artisan printer is that printouts are blank while cleaning cycles are running, and ink is coming through the System.

F1 Fuse Issue:
One thing you will want to check is the F1 fuse on the mainboard of your printer. If this fuse burns out, the printer will not print, but you will still hear all mechanical movements of the printing mechanism; although the ink will flow, there will be no output. This may be why your cleaning cycles get a response and no print. Often, this is fixed by replacing the F1 fuse, and proper ink function should resume. The F1 fuse is a common problem in cases such as this, so that’s one of the first things you should check.

Clogged Printhead:
Another culprit could be a printhead that is only partially clogged. However, even if the nozzle check prints correctly, the printhead may still not be completely clear, and the ink may not be appropriately distributed over the print surface. Cleaning cycles help, but sometimes, they aren’t enough to clear a deep blockage, particularly if the printer has been sitting empty for a while. To ensure no obstructions exist, a more proper manual cleanup using a printhead cleaning set could be helpful. Also, please look at the nozzles for any dried ink obstructing the flow.

Clogged Capping Station:
This process is essential to keeping the printhead healthy, and the capping station is the key component in this operation. It keeps the printhead wet and well-sealed when not in use. If the capping station also becomes clogged or does not work correctly, it will not create the necessary suction during cleaning cycles, leading to a situation where you get no ink on your printhead. This will cause only white ink to print, even though the printer functions normally. Could you check for blockages in the capping station and clean it if needed?

FFC Cable or Mainboard Problem:
Just a flat flexible cable (FFC) between the printhead and the mainboard. This cable carries the signal between the printhead and mainboard, and if it’s not seated correctly or damaged, it can cause signal transmission issues. This can cause problems whereby the printer is in operation, but the ink is not being output. Could you check the FFC cable for any visible damage and ensure it is plugged correctly on the printhead and the mainboard? If any are loose or disconnected, the ink will not be allowed to reach the printhead.

Damage to Printhead Membrane:
Sometimes, if the printhead membrane is damaged, printing will be blank. This damage could be due to too many cleaning cycles, such as harsh cleaning cycles (like Power Clean), that can stress the printhead. If the membrane splits or separates, the ink won’t flow through the nozzles correctly, causing blank prints. If you think that could be the problem, the printhead is likely faulty and must be replaced.

Stop Ink Charge or Power Cleaning from Being Used Too Much:
Overuse of Ink Charge or Power Cleaning functions can severely stress internal printer components, Epson advises. Although these are sometimes necessary to rid those blockages, the over-killing can result in damage down the road. You must wait at least 12 hours in between if you use these functions. It can lead to irreversible damage, and that’s why I call it Armageddon Mode; it is destructive. These intensive options should only be used after other troubleshooting steps.

Printer problems can be somewhat tricky to deal with since they are often hands-on.
